Carbetocin
РастворOxytocin receptor selective agonist
Indications
Prevention of uterine atony after extraction of the baby during surgical delivery by cesarean section with epidural or spinal anesthesia
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to carbetocin, oxytocin or to any of the components of the drug
- The period of pregnancy and the prenatal period
- Application for the purpose of labor induction
- Impaired liver or kidney function
- Severe diseases of the cardiovascular system that occur against the background of vasospastic conditions (including uncontrolled hypertension), cardiac arrhythmias and conduction
- Preeclampsia and eclampsia, epilepsy
With caution
Carbetocin® should be used with caution in migraines, bronchial asthma and cardiovascular diseases, as well as in any conditions in which a rapid increase in extracellular fluid volume can provoke complications associated with hyperhydration. The decision on the appointment of Carbetocin® should be made by the doctor taking into account the benefit–risk ratio in each specific case.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Carbetocin is contraindicated during pregnancy and childbirth until the time of extraction of the child.
A small amount of carbetocin can enter breast milk of mother and then be destroyed in the gastrointestinal tract of the newborn by proteolytic enzymes.
Usage
Carbetocin® is administered once intravenously or intramuscularly only after the birth of a child.
- The drug should not be reused
- Carbetocin should not be mixed with other drugs in the same syringe
- Do not use the drug if insoluble particles are observed in the solution or the solution has changed color
- Unused drug must be destroyed
During cesarean section, one dose of carbetocin (100 mcg) is administered once immediately after the baby is extracted, preferably before the placenta is separated.
During delivery through the natural birth canal, one dose of carbetocin (100 mcg) is injected into the upper thigh, immediately after the placenta is isolated.
